Commercial Freighter Maharshi Krishnatreya

The Commercial Freighter Maharshi Krishnatreya was a combination cargo vessel and passenger ship. Capable of providing passage for a maximum of 200 passengers, and carrying 11,000 TEU (14 tons gross each) in cargo. For the past 8 weeks, the ship had been carrying a group of stellar cartographers, and planetary scientists on her travel to the furthest established Federation outpost thus far, a small research station named imaginatively Research Station DQ-X7Tango, where ongoing construction required raw materials, equipment, and food supplies to support the continued development of the outpost being built on the surface of a Mars-sized moon orbiting a ringed gas giant in the Tsoukalos star system. The ship's total complment of personnel totaled 87 souls, passengers and crew.

The stellar cartography team had contracted passage in order to take advantage of the Krishnatreya's deep journey far from established space within the Delta Quadrant to study sectors of space not yet explored. Using the ship's sensor systems, as well as specially mounted equipment on the hull to help search for evidence of potential inhabited star systems. The planetary scientists were on their way to relieve personnel at DQ-X7Tango.

The ship had made multiple stops, picking up and dropping off cargo at several starbases and planets along the way and now, was 5 days into the last stretch of the 4 week journey to reach DQ-X7Tango. Up until now.. the journey had been uneventful.

Now however...

"How many.." the Captain asked, his voice rough from coughing.

"Four more died over night.. that brings the total dead up to 45." the medical officer told him.

"Have you made any progress?" the Captain asked.

"None. Nothing we have aboard has any effect on the virus. We can't even identify the exact viral agent causing the illness.. I've never seen anything like it and I have had no luck in matching it in any of the databases we're able to access.." the medical officer answered. "The only thing I've been able to confirm is that it is air-born. And every last one of us is infected. So far it has a 100% morality rate.."

"Package up what you have.. I will attach it to the message and then send out a call for help.." the Captain answered, already aware that for him.. and likely everyone else aboard his ship.. it was already too late...
