310 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: Nibiru
Location: Darla's Bedroom
Timeline: In the not too distant future/After Rigel

The storm raged on, battering the shelter, trying its best to reach the two warriors inside. But they held fast, stayed strong, and the storm could not bother them. Eventually, the storm passed, as all storms must. As the sun peeked out through the clouds, the Light and Dark Knights emerged from their shelter, gathered their things, and continued on through the Dark Knight’s homeland. They had slain monsters, fought demons and saved many people together, and now they were ready to return to their kingdom, stronger together than they had been apart. They gathered their weapons and armor, bade farewell to those they loved, and traveled with the Dark King back to his fortress in the sky.

There, they waited, safe and happy together, until, as had been foretold, the Dark Queen would return. Her arrival would herald a new castle within the kingdom, and from their new castle, the Knights would once again ride through the lands of the Fourth Realm, vanquishing all who brought evil to the land.

Darla’s violet eyes fluttered briefly and she yawned, giving her cue that she was ready for sleep. “And they all lived…” she murmured.

Cassandra pulled her gold compact out of her pocket and flipped it open. She gazed into it for a moment, then smiled. “Happily, ever after,” she confirmed. She returned her compact to her pocket, and closed the book gently, returning it to its shelf. She gave Darla a kiss on the forehead, gently smoothed the girl's rainbow-colored hair, and silently left the room, closing the door behind her, leaving her daughter to dream of wizards and warriors, knights and knaves, kings and queens, and all the other myriad of characters in the galaxy who spent their time having adventures and making it safe for little girls to sleep soundly in their beds.
